Couple of posts ago I posted a massive list of mods that improve how Skyrim looks beyond the already Ultra settings, this time around I'm going to post some mods and help you run Skyrim better on the low to medium settings.
Some of these also can help you gain a few FPS on top end machines.
First off is a mod called SkyBoost. Skyboost helps improve FPS in CPU bound area's, it does this by moving the instructions from the x86 set to SSE2+. This alone greatly speeds up the amount of data and instructions passed through the CPU. Not only that but the author also cleaned up some of the code to make it more efficient.
I have tested this mod myself and saw an improvement of 15fps on average. You can find the mod page here.
The second mod is called FPS Background Booster, this nifty little mod essentially uses the same trick that Windows Media Player uses, it allows your CPU to be fully utilized. So if you have a low end quad core then Skyrim would use all 4 cores. Get the mod here.
And lastly the Skyrim Tweaks Complete mod replaces the Skyrim.ini and the Skyrimprefs.ini to take full advantage of the settings to help you run Skyrim better.

Hopefully these mods should increase your low FPS in Skyrim, it won't work miracles but it's a lot cheaper than upgrading your PC is it not?
